Assign a Domain Name

Because your directory listing gives you a web page dedicated solely to your business, you have the option of assigning a domain name to it. In other words, you can have your own www.websitename.com for your business and have it point to your directory listing.

If you don’t have a domain name already, you can purchase one at www.GoDaddy.com. Then simply forward the domain to the URL of your listing. Instructions to Purchase a Domain Name

  1. Click on either the GoDaddy link or banner above.
  2. Enter the domain name of your choice in the “start domain search” box. Do not enter the “www.” or the “.com”. Click on “GO!”
  3. Keep entering domain name ideas in the “start domain search” box at the top of the page until you find a domain name that is available. Don’t get frustrated. This might take a few attempts. There are a lot of websites on the internet today. Once you find an available domain name that you like, scroll down and click on “Proceed to Checkout”.
  4. Skip all the advertisements and find the blue link that says “continue to checkout”. Click there.
  5. Fill out the form and click “Continue”.
  6. Submit your payment information.

Steps to Forward Your Domain Name

  1. Find your Fletcher NC directory listing page, highlight the URL in the box at the top of your screen, highlight the entire URL and copy it (cntrl-c). The URL should look something like this: http://fletcher-nc.com/category/your-business
  2. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  3. Hover your cursor over the green “Domains” bar until the drop-down box appears. Click on “My Domains”.
  4. Click on the check box next to your domain name. Then click the “Forward” arrow in the tool bar above the domain name list.
  5. Click on the check box next to “Enable forwarding”. Paste (cntrl-v) your Fletcher NC directory listing URL into the “Forward to” box. Click the selection circle next to “301 Moved Permanently”. Click on the orange “OK” button.
  6. Click on “OK” again and logout of your GoDaddy account. Your domain name will point to your Fletcher NC directory listing within a few hours.
